sheets Pillsbury™ frozen puff pastry sheets
cup mozzarella cheese, shredded

Preheat the oven to 375°F.
Carefully stretch out the puff pastry. With a circular cookie cutter, cut the dough in 9-inch circles.

Add 2 tablespoons of the cheese and ham in the center of each circle. Fold and seal the edges with a fork.
Mix the egg with the water. Set aside.
Arrange the empanadas on a large cookie sheet and brush the top with the egg wash. Sprinkle with the sesame seeds, if desired.
Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown.
- Use chicken or turkey ham in place of the pork ham to give the empanadas a unique flavor.
More About This Recipe
- In Venezuela these empanaditas made with puff pastry are called pastelitos. They're a popular breakfast menu item, and they’re truly delicious! The fillings can vary: there are cheese, ham and cheese, chicken, beef, ricotta and spinach empanadas, among the many other kinds. At home I make pastelitos quite often, since they're my family's favorite. Prepare them, and surprise your family with a breakfast that's different and oh-so-tasty!
